I Was Not Prepared to Actually Enjoy Smallville

Originally, this was going to be a post about the ways that Smallville failed to live up to my hazy childhood memories of the show. I was gonna go on a tirade about how the show’s talk of destiny and making Clark become a superhero that wasn’t Superman ultimately made the final seasons drag on. However as I tried to write that post, I kept thinking back to the early days of the show. Back when I couldn’t wait to watch another episode and see where the story went.

Falling Out of Love With… Part 3

Alright, guys. time four the final stretch!

(I really wanted to finish this before the new season premiered but my laptop broke so it’s coming out late.)

Back when I first started watching Young Justice, my favorite character was M’gann/Megan/Miss Martian. She was cute, energetic, and a little bit accident prone. She somehow walked the line of being a fish-out-of-water character while acting as a guide for Conner who was even more out of his depts. (There’s a joke to be made about Kaldur being a literal fish-out-of-water, but I digress) However, by the time season two ended, she was my most hated character. So this post will be dedicated to how M’gann went from Hero to Zero for me just like that *snap*.

(As a forewarning, there are some mentions of domestic abuse in this section.)

Falling Out of Love With… Part 2

So, quick note, I didn’t really like the giant wall a text that was the Shipping post. While I did feel that I expressed my points well, I just prefer online texts to be shorter. I think the post will end of being a three-part series to compensate for the length. And without further ado, on to part 2!

(This section contains mentions of brief mentions of suicide, drug addiction, and sexual assault.)

Falling Out of Love With…

yj

Usually, when I fall in love with a series it is instantaneous, but for Young Justice, it was different. I was excited when I saw the trailers, but when it was time to watch the show I was just whelmed. (Fun fact: that was a 10 Things I Hate About You reference that went over the heads of most Young Justice fans, including myself.) It wasn’t until a couple of episodes in that I started having a good time. Unfortunately, as the series went on more and more things started bugging me about the show.

While season one’s problems were a little annoying, I was still able to enjoy the show as a whole. It wasn’t until season two that the things I saw as minor irritants evolved into me not missing the show when it was gone.

This post is in no way an attempt to argue why the show is bad. I think it was perfectly enjoyable when I could look past these problems. This is just a list of what lead me to realize the show isn’t really for me.

(Also, I know it’s a bit late to be writing a Young Justice post, but I didn’t have a blog before so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Besides season 3 is right around the corner, which opens the door for posts like mine. P.S. if you thought these wouldn’t be any spoilers on an analysis post, you’d be wrong.)
